What it is: A leafy green herb.

How to use basil:

  • Toss chopped basil in salads (especially salads with tomato).
  • Layered whole leaves with tomato and/or mozzarella.
  • Add whole leaves to a sandwich.
  • In soups and sauces.
  • Make pesto. Pesto is great not just on pasta, but on sandwiches, dolloped on soup, in scrambled eggs, as a dressing for your grain bowl.

Why basil is good for you: Basil contains vitamins A & K, and has antibacterial properties.
